After the design process of drawings and clay maquettes is completed, full-scale clay models are created. The maquettes, or scale models, are used as a template to construct the full-sized armatures. The clay, which is a temporary medium, is modeled in preparation for the final molds and bronze reproduction.

The client or sculpture committee works directly with the sculptor during and upon completion of the models to ensure and approve all of the details.
